The Gong, Aarhus, 2015.
Baby bell.

A three-ton tubular bronze bell is installed inside the harbour-center, DOKK1, which houses the 28,000 square-meter library. The bell is decorated with engravings, featuring a rising sun on one side, and on the other an infinity sun. It is connected to an interface at Aarhus Univeristy Hospital, 16 kilometres away, where new parents are invited to celebrate their baby’s birth by activating the bell.

Sounding approximately 16 times per day, the bell’s chime can be heard throughout the city’s main library, symbolizing new life. Visitors are are also welcomed to touch the bell and feel the vibrations, a physical reminder of the energy brought by each newborn.

Experience the artwork at DOKK1, Hack Kampmanns Plads 2, 8000 Aarhus C, Denmark and at Aarhus University Hospital. It is also possible to experience a 1 : 10 model of GONG within the maternity ward of Aarhus Univeristy Hospital.
