Large-scale marble run
In the heart of the KUA library, a handcrafted marble run adds a dynamic element to the space. Spanning 18 meters in height and 20 meters in width, the installation connects various levels and areas with the university’s central hall. The vibrant background, featuring a colorful composition paired with bubinga wood, contrasts with the surrounding architecture.
The marble run, which extends from the 3rd floor to the ground level is accompanied by the imagery of birds, which are integrated into the painted background. ‘Klang’ invites interaction; visitors can pick up marbles on the ground floor, carry them to the top, and set them on a playful journey down the wall. As the marbles descend, they create a rhythmic soundscape that resonates throughout the hall. This evolving sound composition, or ‘Klang,’ shifts slightly each time, influenced by the marbles’ speed.
Kirstine’s installation encourages students, faculty, staff, and visitors to engage with the space in an unconventional and playful manner, turning the act of participation into an ever-changing auditory experience.
