In Who Decides Who Decides Kirstine combines her visual art collage with diverse text such as statistics from The Penguin State of the World Atlas, love poetry, and scholarly discourse on terrorism. The result is an exquisite, colorful, critical montage which relentlessly pursues an exploration of what is meaningful to us in the modern world. The surreal manipulation of scale in the collage work, juxtaposed with the literal measures of scale provided by the Penguin atlas, serves to illuminate our existing representations of reality. Roepstroff quotes from the Atlas : “The world contains some striking anomalies and contrasts, many of which people notice and comment on as a matter of routine.” In this book she seems to invite the reader to look amongst these contrasts and decide where it is we find justice, or importance; fear, or love. Who decides? Who decides?
